A Ferwig resident celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family on Monday.

Great-great grandmother Eva Ferraresi lived in Italy for the first half century of her life, and worked on the land for long hours in addition to running her family home, after marrying aged 19.

She learned unique skills such as weaving sheets out a bamboo type plant during the war, rolling cigars and making her own clothes.

The mother-of-three, who still lives independently, is also grandmother to eight, great-grandmother to 14, and has 10 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs Ferraresi was not sent a card by the queen as she is an Italian national, but she received cards from the secretary of state, first minister Carwyn Jones and MP Stephen Crabb, in addition to numerous well wishes from friends, family and local residents.
