Sea Watch Foundation is organising a National Whale and Dolphin Watch this summer.

This annual event aims to raise public awareness of marine wildlife and to get a snapshot of cetacean populations around the UK.

Everyone can take part, no matter what their background, experience or expertise, and a local training course on how to conduct land based watches will be held at The Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran on August 2.

Sea Watch Foundation recently processed a huge amount of data from Sea Watchers at almost 700 sites around the coast and has noticed gaps in certain places.

Local people are needed to organise and take part in events and watches, and report sightings while out and about along the coast.

Watches need to last at least half an hour, between July 26 and August 3.

The foundation now has a 2014 National Whale and Dolphin Watch page on its website waiting for events to be uploaded. Email sightings officer kathy.james@seawatchfoundation.org.uk or call the New Quay office on 01545 561227.
