Congratulations to the members of the Aberteifi Tigers Racing STEM club team on their success at the Greenpower Educational Trust Formula 24 races at Rockingham Speedway race track in Northamptonshire on July 6th. The Greenpower Educational Trust promotes sustainable engineering and technology to young people, and schools can compete in a number of practical, educational engineering challenges, such as the Formula 24 race. The object of the race is to go the furthest distance on one set of batteries within the time permitted.

All teams have the same motor and one pair of 12 volt batteries per race. During the race at least three team members must drive the car, and up to six further members act as pit crew. Other than the motor and batteries, all the teams can design their car from their own imagination, and all cars must follow a set of strict regulations.

The team’s new car "Project X: Y Ddraig Werdd" was designed and built by the pupils in the Aberteifi Tigers Racing Team and competed against a full grid of 57 cars in two 90 minute races. The team members were overjoyed when the new car Project X swiftly made its way up the leader board in both races, finishing fourth in the first race, and third in the second in a very exciting finish. This performance automatically qualified the team for the national finals in Goodwood in October.

The team would like to thank their teacher, Mr Wright, and all the local companies for their continued generous sponsorship.

The members of the team are:

Joe Mansfield, Jordan Godfrey, Jess Gravell, Benjamin James, Tia Davies, Ffion Trevitt, Gemma Beavis, Ella Griffiths, Bradley Roberts, George Long and Merlin Kennett.
