A Cardigan mother-of-three accepted a gift of cannabis while suffering from dental pain, a court has heard.

Carol Jones, aged 38, of 11 Felin Ban Estate, pleaded guilty to possession of 0.45g of cannabis resin, when she appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.

The court heard that police executed a warrant at Jones’ address on January 31, and officers saw her trying to place something in the rear waist line of her trousers.

She was searched and a small amount of cannabis was found.

Alison Mathias, defending, told the court the defendant had undergone a dental treatment that day, and was in a lot of pain.

She said: “Her friend gave her a small amount of cannabis to help with the pain. She did not use any of it, and that was the cannabis that was found.”

She added that Jones was ‘genuinely remorseful’ for the offence. She had been through difficulties in her life, but was now in a stable relationship and expecting her fourth child in December.

Jones was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A destruction order was made for the drugs.
