Several KS3 and KS4 pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn took part in a national science competition organised by the ‘Copper Development Association’. Pupils carried out research into the uses of copper in various fields from architecture to health and presented their findings in an informative poster. Posters were judged by a panel including representatives from the Association for Science Education, European Copper Institute and Copper Development Association.
There were over 500 entries from schools country the UK. Ruby Gold from Year 8 won the KS3 ICT category and Matthew Lumby from Year 10 won the KS4 Health category. Judges commented that they were “impressed by the theme that copper is all around us” in Ruby’s poster and that the characters in Matthew’s poster were “appealing “with information presented in a “visually clear way”. Pupils were awarded with £100 prize money and £500 each for the science department.
Copies of the winning posts are available to view online at copperalliance.org.uk.
