Community campaigners in Pontgarreg are celebrating after getting the go-ahead to lease part of the former village school grounds.
Pontgarreg Community Field Group want to create a community garden with a playground and park.
The group say that the school area would make a better playing field for the village as it is overlooked by houses and is a safe place for children to play.
Ceredigion's Cabinet gave the go-ahead to the plan this week. The former school building and a piece of adjoining land will be put up for sale on the open market.
Local member Gwyn James said: "This is exactly what everyone wanted."
