Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has raised the issue of postal scams in a Welsh Conservative debate in the Senedd.
According to the Office of Fair Trading, postal scams are estimated to cost their victims up to £3.5bn a year. Mr Davies highlighted how older people have been most vulnerable to scams and that more needs to be done to target these criminals and prevent postal scams from taking place.
Mr Davies said: “I was pleased to take part in this debate and raise awareness of postal scams, which is happening all over Wales. The sad fact is that any one of us could fall for a scam, but more often than not, it’s the elderly and vulnerable that are being targeted.
"In Pembrokeshire, there is a higher proportion of elderly residents, some of whom are socially isolated, over-trusting and in some cases suffering from illnesses such as dementia. Therefore, we must do all that we can to ensure that vulnerable older people are made aware of the threat of scams, especially people living in rural areas across Pembrokeshire."
