Ceredigion’s local AM Elin Jones has called for a thorough safety review of the main A44 road between Aberystwyth and Llangurig in the wake of the accident on 17 June which claimed the lives of four people.
Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru AM for Ceredigion, said,
“There is huge sadness when there is loss of life following a road accident such as this. Everyone’s thoughts are with the families concerned.
“Increasingly, the A44 isn’t suitable for the heavy traffic that uses the road. It’s used by large number of delivery lorries coming to and from Aberystwyth, as well as other goods vehicles and local commuters. In the tourist season and at the beginning and end of university term, it’s even busier.
“It hasn’t had the kind of improvements that other trunk roads have seen – such as the A486 around Llandysul and Synod and the A487 at Glandyfi.
“There have been concerns for many years about safety on the A44, and it’s time that a thorough review was carried out to see what can be done to improve the road.”
