Recently Parents from Cardigan took part in a Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Course held at Cardigan Fire Station. This was in partnership with Jig-So Children’s Centre.

Throughout the day, the parents were involved in various fire service drill yard activities – from squad drills, hose running, branch handling, working with ladders, search and rescue and team building. There were classroom activities covering subjects such as fire safety awareness, e.g. home fire safety and also road safety awareness – covering the various causes of road traffic collisions, distractions and influences and also child seat safety.

New skills that the parents gained throughout the day nurtured great team building attributes and also built individual confidence, pride and achievement.

On completion Community Risk Reduction Safeguarding Officer Diana Harris awarded each parent with a certificate in deserved recognition of their achievement.

"Jig-So Children's Centre and Outreach services are delighted to further develop their partnership working with the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. We see this as an extension to the Home Fire Safety checks that our staff are trained to deliver on behalf of the Service. Feedback from parents has been very positive and much appreciated”.
