A team of Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn pupils who made it to the semi finals of the Young Consumers of the Year Competition recently visited County Hall.

They represented Carmarthenshire at the Welsh regional competition at Cardiff City Stadium earlier this year but did not make it through to the finals. The competition is organised nationally by the Trading Standards Institute and locally by the Carmarthenshire Trading Standards Services section.

Team members Mark Ramsey (captain), Liam Webb, and Andrew Lemmon, visited County Hall with Business Studies teacher Dylan Williams as guests of the Chair Cllr Daff Davies in the Chairman’s Room and were show round the Council Chamber. The fourth member, Jack Davies, was unable to be there.

Cllr Davies congratulated the team and explained the workings of the Council Chamber.

Carmarthenshire County Council Trading Standards Service Manager Roger Edmunds said everyone was proud of how well the team had done.

Teacher Mr Williams said: “We have competed for years and continue to be successful. Pupils find the things they learn useful in future life; it makes them better consumers and more worldly wise.”

Mark Ramsey said: “It was a great experience and we have learned a lot we can put to future use.”

Executive board member for public protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn represented Carmarthenshire well in the semi finals and I’m pleased that they have had the opportunity to visit County Hall and meet the Chair.”
