Since its merger into the Trinity Saint David group early this year, Coleg Ceredigion has been developing and establishing constructive links within the group framework.

As part of the developing links between the group, Coleg Ceredigion’s Cardigan ICT visited the School of Applied Computing at University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea. Students from both Level 2 and Level 3 were invited to participate in a robotics workshop held by Dr Nik Whitehead and her students. One of those students at Swansea that assisted in the workshop was Caroline Probert who completed her Level 3 Cambridge TEC Extended Diploma at the Cardigan campus last year.

Students spent the day designing building and programming robots. The day culminated in a robotic challenge to determine the most effective robot design. This visit gave Coleg Ceredigion students a chance to meet staff and students from the University and to learn more about the courses provided there and to see avenues for progression such as programmes at HND and degree level that range from Applied Computing and Business Computing to more specialist offerings such as Robotics and Intelligent Systems and Web Development.

“This was an extremely valuable experience for our students which expended their educational horizons. The developing links between the IT department at Cardigan and the School of Applied Computing at UWTSD, Swansea will be very valuable in better preparing our students for industry and higher education.”
