A small sail boat with two crew and a failed engine off Dinas Head made a 'Mayday' call as they were being swept towards rocks on Wednesday evening.
The well-equipped 17 foot lugger was caught in rough seas and a strong current when their outboard engine failed and refused to re-start. Despite deploying their anchor the sailboat still dragged towards the rugged Dinas Head cliffs. Using their VHF radio a 'Mayday' call was made to HM Coastguard and both the all-weather RNLI lifeboat and inshore lifeboat, with a full complement of volunteer crew, launched just after 6pm and sped to the lugger's location.
The two male and female adult crew, holidaymakers from the Midlands, had inflated their lifejackets and were frightened when the all weather lifeboat arrived.
They were relieved to be taken under tow back to Newport's Parrog where they had originally launched.
Once safely ashore the two lifeboats returned to the Fishguard base at 8pm.
