An Aberaeron teenager, who attempted to bite a bouncer, has been advised to seek help for his alcohol issues by magistrates.

Rupert Thomas Elliott, aged 19, of Gwelfor, Brynmorawel, Aberarth, represented himself when he appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday, and pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress at Aberystwyth on April 17.

The court heard that a pub doorman called police for assistance at 2am, after the defendant lunged at him and attempted to bite his arm.

Elliott made several attempts to gain entry to the Angel pub while drunk, and ran past the bouncer who repeatedly refused to allow him in.

He lunged at the doorman while being escorted out and tried to bite him as attempts were made to bring him under control. He then became aggressive when police officers arrived at the scene and was arrested.

Elliott said: “I had drunk a lot of alcohol, I know it’s no excuse. I can’t remember much and I’m very sorry about what happened. I would like to apologise to the bouncer.”

Magistrates imposed a 12 month conditional discharge and Elliott was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

The presiding magistrate said: “You have got a problem that seems to be coming from drink. I would seek help if I were you. There are local organisations you can speak to.”
