Ceredigion MP Mark Williams, has visited the Hiut denim company in Cardigan.

Run by David and Clare Hieatt who started the company Howies, Hiut Denim has carried on jean production in Cardigan following the closure in November 2012 of Dewhirst, who produced jeans for Marks and Spencer.

Over their past 2 years in Cardigan, the staff of Hiut has already increased from 5 to 10, and the expertise in the jean production already established in the area has been a valuable asset to the company in finding experienced local staff.

Commenting following the visit, Mark Williams said:

‘I was delighted to read in the Guardian the success of the Hiut denim company, a brand which has followed on a long tradition of jean production in Cardigan. This is a highly imaginative and inspiring company, who have already achieved great notoriety in the production of their style of jeans.

‘It was great to meet David and Clare and some of their employees in their factory, who are ambitious for the company’s future, and are certainly doing their bit to put Cardigan on the map. I look forward to the success of their business continuing to grow. Once again it gives me a great deal of pleasure as Ceredigion’s MP to see a local business promoting their goods across the UK, and internationally.’
