Ceredigion County Council Family Placement Team is raising awareness of the need to recruit more carers for local children in Ceredigion as part of national Foster Care Fortnight campaign.

With record numbers of children coming into care, the team is asking if people in Ceredigion have the skills to consider becoming a foster carer. This year’s national theme, “Guess who fosters” is busting myths about fostering and focusing on the skills and experience needed to become a foster carer and provide a loving home for vulnerable children.

Pam Green, team manager, said: “That for the majority of children in Ceredigion needing alternative care, a foster home can provide the stability and support needed to secure a better future the team needs carers to look after children of all ages. However, there is a particular shortage of foster carers for teenagers and for parent and baby placements which will form part of the team’s new specialist fostering scheme. We are also in need of Short Breaks Carers and Sitters for disabled children.

“There are many myths about who can become a foster carer, but what really matters is that someone has the commitment, skills and ability to look after children separated from their own families, and to offer them a stable and secure home. The team is looking to recruit at least 10 new foster families.”

The team will be at Tesco, Cardigan, on Thursday, May 15, 9.30am to 4.30pm, and at the Co-operative, Aberystwyth, on May 21.
