Mencap Ceredigion, in partnership with well-known Newcastle Emlyn artist Helen Elliott, is raising funds by selling raffle tickets to win a special original painting commissioned by the charity.

The ideas for the work were generated by members of Mencap Ceredigion and Helen. The painting depicts a summer show, similar to many held in West Wales, in the usual colourful Helen Elliott style. But there is an added twist that a Mencap stall is a prominent feature of the work.

Jan Kench, a member of the Mencap Ceredigion Committee who worked with Helen on the idea, said: “We are really excited about the beautiful painting and its potential in raising much needed funds for the work that we do in the county. Our charity is run by volunteers and we depend wholly on fundraising, so this project success is essential to us.”

Peter Latter, a Mencap Ceredigion member who went to the studio to collect the work of art, said: “ I can’t wait to see everyone’s faces as they come the buy a raffle, we are going to make such a lot of money that will help in our work.”

Angie Lewes Gee, president, added: “It has been a pleasure to work with Helen on this project and we are extremely grateful for all she has done for us and for producing such a beautiful work of art.”

The painting will be on view in shops, shows and events in Ceredigion throughout the summer. For further details call 01239 711112 or email mencapceredigion@outlook.com.
