Something needs to be done to improve the river Teifi for boats before it is too late.

The warning has come from local town councillor Neal Jones, who told this week's town council meeting: "The situation is getting worse. You can't get boats up the river that you could 20 or 30 years ago. You have to have a way that boats can get up the river by creating a channel."

His comments came as the town council backed a bid by Afon Teifi Fairways to submit a bid for a feasibility study to the Welsh Assembly looking at the possibility of getting regular fishing boat access to the town quays.

"The situation can't continue as it is at the moment," said Cllr Jones.

Councillors referred to a study that was carried out by TEEMI - Teifi Estuary Envionmental Management Initiative - around 15 years ago and called for all stakeholders to meet to discuss the river's future.
