People with epilepsy in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire are set to benefit from better epilepsy services thanks in part to charity Epilepsy Action. A new epilepsy Sapphire Nurse post has been created to improve epilepsy care in the area by providing clinical support and advice and all aspects of living with epilepsy. The post will be funded by Epilepsy Action for the first year.
Epilepsy specialist nurses are an expert and essential part of epilepsy health services. They review the control of seizures, adjusting or changing medication as required, and provide advice and information. They also give support and time to help reduce the impact of epilepsy as well as help patients to understand the risks associated with epilepsy.
The new nurse will support people with epilepsy across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Epilepsy Action estimates that there are around 4,000 adults living with epilepsy in the area.
