Emergency dramas don’t come more sensational than an amazing incident at a local church service on the South Ceredigion coast.

During a packed service of Holy Communion at the tiny Church of the Holy Cross (Eglwys y Grog) at Mwnt a local elderly woman was taken ill and needed medical assistance.

Attempts by members of the congregation to raise the alarm via mobile telephones were unsuccessful due to the location of the church overlooking Cardigan Bay where it was not possible to get a signal.

An Australian woman who was married to a local man at the church last year and with her husband was back on holiday in the Cardigan area could not raise anyone locally but remarkably her mobile telephone enabled her to get in touch with the national ambulance service in Australia.

She gave the relevant information which was transferred to this country and in no time paramedics from Cardigan Ambulance Station arrived at the remote resort and took the woman to hospital.
