Water bailiffs keeping observations on an illegal gill net in the River Teifi upriver of the bypass bridge in Cardigan apprehended two poachers.
Mark Lloyd Thomas Lewis aged 41, of 5 Teifi Terrace, Cardigan, pleaded guilty at Ceredigion Magistrates Court last week to a charge of fishing for sea fish with an unauthorised fixed engine.
He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.
The second man 27-year-old Kevin John Patrick Kinsella, of 1 Maesgrug, Stop and Call, Goodwick who was charged with the same offence was dealt with by way of a formal caution.
Natural Resources Wales was granted £200 costs and the magistrates ordered confiscation of the gill net.
