Scouts from across Teifi District, which is based in South Ceredigion, flocked together for a day of adventure on the beach in Aberporth to celebrate St George’s Day last Sunday. St George is the patron saint of Scouting as he demonstrated acts of gallantry and bravery.
A modern day version of St George is Assistant Area Commissioner Yve O’Neill from Cardigan. During the St George’s Day celebrations, she was presented with her own award for gallantry. Yve was given The Scout Association’s Medal for Meritorious Conduct. The medals citation read:
“In recognition of her swift actions and her professional manner when she went to assist drivers of two cars involved in a road traffic accident and both had sustained serious injuries, she administered first aid and called the emergency services whilst remaining calm throughout”.
This accident occurred on the evening of 3rd February 2014 near Brynberian, Pembrokeshire.
