The former courthouse in Cardigan owned by the 4CG community group is to become a funeral home with chapel of rest and will open next month.

The enterprise group took over the courthouse and next-door police station in Priory Street in November 2012, with the buildings earmarked for social and community use.

At the time the group said it wanted to support other groups in the area to build a network of enterprises with the aim of creating new jobs and expanding existing grassroots businesses.

Now funeral director Peter Evans, whose chapel of rest is at Bettws Evan and has an office in Pendre, Cardigan, has obtained a lease from 4CG on the courthouse building.

Mr. Evans said “Work is currently being carried out inside the building. We plan to be up and running within a fortnight and will continue to provide a service of the highest quality.”

Cardigan presently has a chapel of rest in Netpool Road adjacent to the town cemetery.
