Ceredigion proves to be a tourist hotspot this Easter

The sun shone despite a small breeze, which meant visitors were able to enjoy Ceredigion at its best – its outdoor attractions as well as those indoors. Llangrannog and Tresaith were popular spots, as were the beaches of Aberystwyth, Borth and New Quay.

Sophie Fuller, who runs Sophie’s café in Aberystwyth, was very glad to see the warmer weather over the weekend: “It was the busiest weekend of the year so far for me. I’m so glad Aberystwyth’s lovely seafront is still drawing in the crowds after the storms earlier this year – loyal visitors who love Aberystwyth come back here year after year for their holidays, and no matter what the sea does I don’t think that will change!”

Those not relaxing by the sea also enjoyed hiking in the hills, cycling and horse riding in Ceredigion’s extensive woodland and countryside.

Cllr Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet Member, Economic Development, Community Development, Culture and Leisure of Ceredigion Council, felt that this Easter period reinforced the county as a key tourist destination and is a great platform for the months ahead: “It is no secret that the recent months have proved challenging for Ceredigion with the extreme weather buffeting our coastline. It was important therefore for us as a Council to ensure that the infrastructure was back in place and that we worked effectively with Visit Wales to develop a campaign that promoted Ceredigion’s natural strengths and attractions.

The fair weather was undoubtedly a boost but I feel that our strategic and targeted campaign played a key role in attracting staying tourists and day-trippers to visit the area.

This is just reward for the hard work put in by council employees and members of the local community. The work does not stop here though as this now has to continue into the summer months and beyond as the county has so much to offer all year round.”
