A local marine business will be hovercraft training in the Teifi estuary over the coming months.
In addition to their Environmental Surveying and Monitoring services, , Razorbill RIB Charter and Marine Services, have recently begun operating an MCA Coded, Ultralight class, four person, commercial hovercraft. The business is now in its fifth year, operating commercial RIBs for private and public sector clients, as well as a wildlife watching SeaSafari Jet Boat trip from Lower Town, Fishguard.
The addition of Hovercraft services will further enhance the range of environmental monitoring and surveying duties currently performed by the business, as the craft enables access to otherwise inaccessible areas in the intertidal zone being capable of traversing water, sand and mud banks alike, with virtually no physical impact
The craft, manufactured by Vortex Services, is one of only a handful of coded ultra lights operating commercially in the UK. Benthic, Macro-algae and Eel Grass monitoring projects have been secured for the coming year in Wales and the West.
Under the direction of Afon Teifi Fairways Ltd the craft will be undertaking crew training operations on the Teifi estuary periodically over the coming months mostly at low water. Once training is complete it is not envisaged that that the craft will operate further on the Teifi estuary
