CeredigionMP, Mark Williams, on a recent Welsh Affairs Select Committee visit to Patagonia, met with Mayor of Trevelin, Juan Carlos Garitano. Trevelin is a town in Patagonia which is twinned with Cardigan in Ceredigion.

Commenting following the visit, Mark Williams said;

‘It was a real pleasure to meet the Mayor and other members of the Welsh community in Trevelin, and hear about the strong links with their twin town Aberteifi - and in particular hear about the success of their famous Eisteddfod.

‘The links between Ceredigion and Patagonia are strong and run very deep, and I look forward to being involved in promoting these further when the 150th anniversary of the Welsh community first arriving in Patagonia is celebrated next year.

‘When meeting with many groups over my stay, it was very useful to discuss the prospects of further education and commercial activities between the two countries.’

Mark Williams also visited Coleg Camwy in Gaiman, where he was delighted to meet Eluned Jones, the former Head teacher of Cardigan Infants School, who is working on a teaching placement in the local community.
