A mural painted by the the well known artists Meirion and Aneurin Jones of Cardigan and depicting the life of a Teifi Valley village will be on permanent display from now on at the Welsh National Woollen Museum at Drefach- Felindre.

The painting was unveiled at a special evening held at the local village hall last week and is part of the ‘Stori Fawr Drefach-Felindre’ project set up to record the history of the village and to develop a web site where people all over the world can read information and view photographs of life in the locality along the centuries to present day.

“The unveiling of this commissioned painting by Mr Alwyn Davies, who had contributed so much to the life of our village, was the first step in our effort to make people aware of the rich history surrounding the community which we live in,” said Mr Stephen Jones, Chair of the project Team.

“This mural reflects so vividly through the various scenes and characters how life has evolved along the centuries with the woollen industry taking centre stage,” he added.

Accepting the mural, Mrs Ann Whitall on behalf of the Welsh National Woolen Museum explained that the mural was an added feature to the local historical artifacts that will be on display at the museum and added,

“This mural is such a colourful masterpiece that individuals can take their time to enjoy and appreciate the features that are reflected within it. We are so pleased to be given the honour to house and display this very special painting.”

During the unveiling evening pupils from Penboyr Primary School, who had visited the artist at his studio and are pursuing local historical themes on Beca and Griffith Jones, presented musical and dance items at the event.

A limited edition of framed A3 and A2 sizes of the mural will be on sale for a short period of time through Mrs Olive Campden on 01559 370302.
