After nearly five years of surviving in very cramped conditions in the loft of New Life Church, Cardigan Foodbank has had a makeover and expansion.

This has been caused by the ever increasing demand and the need to store more food to meet that demand.

Manager, Phil Buckman said, "It's been wonderful seeing how the Foodbank has helped so many people in crisis but it all comes with a cost. The more you help the more you need to help them and space was something we needed.

The church gave us more floor space in the loft which has enabled us to create a better shelving and storage system allowing us to be more efficient."

A big thank you has to be given to Alan Faunch, Tom Taylor and Pastor Doug Bell who gave up even more of their very valuable time to physically rebuild the interior of the loft, reinforcing floors, adding shelving and work top units, all so the Foodbank could continue to deal with the increasing numbers of people using it.

Phil added, "2012/13 saw around 900 people visit the food bank. 2013/14 has seen around 1300 people using the foodbank. That's a huge growth and it's likely to increase this coming year as well. We've also added hygiene and toiletry products to the parcels, all of which takes up space. We just couldn't continue as we were so we had to bite the bullet and get it sorted. If you know what church lofts are like, you would know what a task we had".

The Foodbank would also like to thank those that have donated towards the cost of the materials required to achieve what needed to be done.

Also, please note that the foodbank will be open Thursday 17th April instead of Good Friday and Tuesday 22nd instead of Easter Monday. The times remain the same, 10AM till 4 PM. It also now has it's own dedicated mobile number which is: 07870 913960. Email: info@cardigan.foodbank.org.uk and web site is www.cardigan.foodbank.org.uk
