Local farmers have banded together to help fellow farmers hit by flooding in Somerset,

FUW county chairman and Penparc farmer Aled Rees has secured transport to take much needed forage down to the south west this week.

"Geraint Morris of Castell Malgwyn Farm in Llechryd has kindly donated the transport and has by now secured another three hauliers to do the same ,Oliver Lewis of Owen Lewis and son in Eglwyswrw and Lyndon Jones of Saron Llangeler," said Mr Rees.

"All we need now is for the farming community in the surrounding area to get news of what we are doing so that we can ask them to donate the bales of straw hay and silage."

Mr Rees has liaised with the Somerset Farming Community Network to discuss what's needed.

"They have assured me that the forage donated will go to the farmers that need it most and that they were facing at least 12 months of problems due to the floods. It has made me more determined to try and help and I must say that the farmers that i have contacted so far have been brilliant," he said.

Nearly four artic lorry loads of fuel have been donated and local businesses have made donations towards fuel costs.
