Cardigan's Gateway Club which has provided support for people with learning disabilities in the area for the past 30 years is to close.

The last meeting will be on April 8.

In a letter to the Tivy-Side the club 's committee say the closure is "with deep regret".

The club organised regular social evenings and provided respite for parents and carers.

"We would like to thank all the individuals and organisations in the area for their generous support," the committee said.

Local county councillor John Adams-Lewis said he was saddened to hear the news.

‘The closure of the Dyffryn Teifi Gateway Club has come as a complete shock to me and is indeed sad news for the wider community.Having been involved with the Club since its inception 30 years ago,and at one time a regular voluntary driver and a staunch supporter, this very worthwhile service will be sorely missed. I wish to pay tribute to the small band of volunteers who dedicated very many years of service in ensuring the success of the Club. May I also extend my best wishes for the future, to those who benefitted from the immeasurable weekly support given," he said.
