An Ysgol y Preseli pupil recently received an award of recognition for his outstanding entrepreneurial skills.

Rhodri Maiden was awarded with this year’s Radio Pembrokeshire Young Entrepreneur Award at the Local Hero’s Awards Ceremony on February 27. The gala evening took place at Slebech Park with more than 150 individuals in attendance.

Rhodri was awarded this year’s Young Entrepreneur Award by award sponsor the Port of Milford Haven.

Anna Malloy, PR and Communications Officer for the port said: “It’s great to see Young Entrepreneur’s such as Rhodri recognised for their business success. We were lucky enough to have tasted some of his fudge during the Local Hero Awards and it was amazing. He’s a fantastic role model for young people across Pembrokeshire.”

Rhodri originally set up his business when he was just 13 years-old, making homemade jam with ingredients sourced from his grandmothers garden, and later selling them at local markets. Due to his success and with a desire to expand he later developed his business into Rhodri’s Homemade Fudge.

Rhodri has continued to excel his business further with assistance from a number of businesses through training courses, and is a supplier member of Pembrokeshire Tourism.

He said: “Pembrokeshire Tourism have been great with the Achieving Food Outlet Success course I went on last month. The courses I have attended have helped me build the knowledge I need to be able to expand my business further once I leave school next year.”

Rhodri added: “It’s been a real honour to be chosen as Radio Pembrokeshire’s Young Entrepreneur of the year. I hope to build on the success of this award going into the future.”
