Young carers' charter

A successful consultation event was held in Ceredigion during half-term to find out what Young Carers in the County think about the service they receive and also to develop a Young Carers Charter.
The event was delivered in partnership with Aberystwyth University, Social Services, Youth Service, British Red Cross Young Carers project and Families First. Local artist, Helen Elliott, was commissioned to work with the young people to add artistic flair to the Charter.
"Our young carers do a fantastic job, there is less money for the young carers’ project in 2014/15 and we needed to ask them how best to spend it," said Cathryn Morgan, Families First co-ordinator.
"We now have a list and can build it into the contract with Red Cross for the next 12 months."
The Young Carers Charter will set out the needs and aspirations of Ceredigion young carers. It will be used to inform senior decision makers what they need to do to support young carers in Ceredigion. It will be presented to Ceredigion GP’s and Head teachers and to senior officers in Ceredigion Council and Hywel Dda Health Board.
