Pupils returning to Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi after the half term holiday had a nice surprise waiting for them - the best equipped school gym in Ceredigion.
A team of fundraisers, led by PE teacher Rob Evans and school governors, raised £45k to kit out the gym, transforming the 1930s style room into a high-tech 21st century fitness suite.
"It's absolutely fantastic," said Mr Evans. "This will make such a difference to pupils' fitness for years to come."
The gym includes a variety of equipment including spin bikes, weights, punchbags and electronic fitness boards
The money was raised with donations from the school's centenary committee plus fundraising events such as a Bardathon, bag packing at Tesco and a lunch and auction at Cardigan Rugby Club.
"I cannot thank everyone enough," said Mr Evans. "We now have the best equipped gym in Ceredigion."
A special open day to show off the gym is planned for later this spring.
