Two Cardigan men appeared in court to on Friday accused of breaking into a barricaded flat while armed with a gun.
Steven Brown, 28, and Thomas Eley, 27, made a preliminary hearing before Judge Keith Thomas at Swansea crown court via a video link with Cardiff Prison.
Robin Rouch, prosecuting, said the man had been charged with of aggravated burglary.
He said the prosecution case was that they broke into a flat in the town occupied by Paul Dare even though Mr Dare had barricaded himself in and was talking to the police on a mobile telephone at the time.
Mr Dare was struck to the head with the gun and punched, added Mr Rouch.
Both men were arrested later the same day.
Barristers representing Brown, of 23 Feidr-fair, and Eley, of 3 Heol Hafod, said pleas of not guilty would be entered at a plea and case management hearing on May 23.
Judge Thomas said a two day trial would begin on August 20.
Both men were further remanded in custody meanwhile.
