Youngsters across Pembrokeshire attended an event that took graduates back to school as part of the Oxbridge Ambassador project.

In a drive to inspire more young people from across Wales to apply to the UK’s top universities, pupils from six schools met former graduates of Oxbridge and other leading institutions to hear first-hand about their university experiences.

Pupils from host school Ysgol Sir Thomas Picton in Haverfordwest were joined by their peers from Ysgol Y Preseli in Crymych, Ysgol Dewi Sant in Haverfordwest, Tasker Milward VC School in Haverfordwest, Milford Haven School, and Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard as they spent the day in a series of workshops hosted by the Welsh Government’s Oxbridge Ambassador Paul Murphy MP.

Torfaen MP and former Welsh Secretary Mr Murphy, who attended Oxford University, took on the role last year in response to data which showed low numbers of young people in Wales were attending Oxford and Cambridge universities.

The event was part of a tour of Wales with alumni organisation Future First to encourage Welsh pupils to explore Oxbridge opportunities.
