80mph winds, driving rain and nearly zero temperatures were not going to put off the Scouts of Teifi District (Ceredigion) at their Scouts cookery competition at Llandysul on Saturday 8thFebruary.

The brief was to produce a 3 course fine dining meal for 6 people for under £10.

There was minimal cover available at the venue, but the weather didn’t put off the Scouts and the adult volunteers. District commissioner Clive Edmonds, a Chef by profession, said “this is what Scouting is all about!” Apart from the cooking there were points for presentation and an ingredients taste test.

The standard was really high, definitely much better than standard camp food and showed what could be achieved on a small budget.

Eventual winners were the Scouts from Emlyn, closely followed by Aberporth and Parcllyn, but as always the winning was not the important thing just seeing the young people and the adults all having a great time. It is now hoped that this will be an annual event.
