A man accused of driving into two pedestrians has been detained under the Mental Health Act, it was revealed today.

Craig Morgan Wilmott, aged 31, had been due to attend a plea and case management hearing before Judge Keith Thomas at Swansea crown court, accused of dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault.

But his defence barrister, Dyfed Thomas, successfully applied for an adjournment after telling the court that Wilmott had been sectioned last week and taken to a psychiatric ward in Haverfordwest.

Mr Thomas said Wilmott had been “taken off” section the previous night following treatment.

Judge Thomas agreed to relist the hearing on February 28. If a trial is necessary it will begin on April 23.

Meanwhile, Wilmott was bailed to his mother’s home in Maes Ingli, Newport. He was placed under a 9pm to 6am curfew, banned from driving and told not to enter Fishguard.

Wilmott was arrested following an incident at Maes-y-Cnwce, Newport, where his Mitsubishi Warrior 4x4 was said to have come into contact with Paul Reading and Kieran Morgans.
