Belly dancers from all over West Wales joined national star breast cancer survivor and comedienne Yvette Cowles for dancing and comedy at Theatr Mwldan on Friday 7th February to raise money for local cancer charities.

Yvette was joined in her show Sequins on My Balcony by dancers from all over Wales and the UK, to demonstrate the history of belly dancing. Many were from dance classes in Ceredigion run by Rhydlewis-based teacher Rose Barter who organised the event.

“The show was a sell-out,” said Rose. "We'd like to thank everyone who supported the event. We raised over £900 through ticket sales, a raffle and sponsorship from local businesses in Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn. The money will go to Cardigan Cancer Care, Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres Trust and to provide bursaries so that women on low incomes can afford to attend dance classes and events through my organisation, Fit For Life"

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Wales,” added Rose. “One in seven women in Wales will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. It was great to be able to do something to help as well as have such a fun evening.”
