On Saturday February 22nd at 11am the Cardigan Community Bookshop will open its doors to the public for the first time and Cynan Jones will be there to cut the ribbon. Author of the award winning novel The Long Dry (Parthian) and the recently published, critically acclaimed, The Dig (Granta), Cynan is a local writer with an international reputation, a judge for the prestigious Rhys Davies short story competition and an Ambassador for the Dylan Thomas centenary.
The bookshop initiative has been overwhelmed by the support from the local community. Donations of books, shop fittings and volunteer hours have all contributed to make it a truly community spirited venture.
Zosia Kobylinska, the committee’s Chair, gave particular thanks to local businesses Melingoed and LBS for their generosity in donating materials, and to the carpentry students at Coleg Ceredigion who made the shelving.
‘The support shown by everyone has been wonderful,’ she said. ‘And I’m delighted that Cynan Jones will be cutting the ribbon. Please join us for a slice of cake at the Grand Opening.’
The bookshop is located at 21 Pendre, Cardigan, and will initially open for three days a week – Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteers to help in the shop will be welcomed.
