Eight young people from Pembrokeshire Youth – the County Council’s youth service - recently celebrated achieving their ‘Senior Member’ status at The Popworks Youth Centre in Fishguard.

In order to complete the training programme, the young people participated in a number of accredited courses, and also signed up as Millennium Volunteers - a scheme supported by the Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS).

Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Ken Rowlands said: “The young people should be very proud of their achievements and the commitment they have shown to their communities”.

Community Youth Worker, Steve Lewis added: “The Senior Member programme aims to accredit what young people have learnt through their involvement as active volunteers in their youth club and communities.

Accreditation Officer for Pembrokeshire Youth, Liz Griffiths said: “Pembrokeshire Youth’s ‘Senior Member Training’ has been developed into a comprehensive programme of units which introduces the concept of Continuing Professional Development to the young people.

“This allows them to reflect on their own practice, in particular how they have utilised newly acquired skills and knowledge. These young people have shown dedication and determination to achieve ‘Senior Member’ status and are a credit to Pembrokeshire Youth as well as themselves.”

A presentation evening was held at the Youth Centre to celebrate the young people’s achievements.
