Pembrokeshire Young Carers are in with a chance of winning a £5,000 prize, thanks to the Principality Building Society.

Five community groups from across Wales have been whittled down from hundreds of entrants to be in with a chance of winning Principality’s Community Vote 2014.

Now the competition is out to a public vote and the winner will receive £5,000 and a Christmas party for their community.

Pembrokeshire Young Carers is a service offering support, information and fun activities for Young Carers aged eight to 25 years old.

They have support groups across the county offering training, self-development, friendship and emotional support. The £5,000 would be used to give the young carers a break from their roles, where they can take part in a range of activities in a fun and safe environment.

Jenny Davies, aged nine, has been part of Pembrokeshire Young Carers for one year. She said: “I love it as I have loads of fun, have a break from caring for my mum and meet lots of other people. I am so proud that we have been chosen for this community grant and I have been planning with other Young Carers as how we could use it to help all of us who are part of the project.

“We would use it to do lots of fun things like nights away, so we have a proper break from caring and trips to places like Folly Farm and have cool craft workshops with proper artists. Sometimes I think I miss out on things and experiences that my friends have because my Mum can’t take me places and we can’t do things together and this money could really help me and many other people just like me.”
