A Llandysul man plans to take on a marathon challenge to raise funds for Concern Worldwide.

Iwan Williams, aged 31, will take part in the London Marathon on April 13, in a bid to raise money for the international charity which fights poverty.

Originally from Llandysul, Iwan recently moved to Cardiff, and works for the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, having spent the past six years working in Brussels for the Welsh Local Government Association.

This is his fourth marathon, and he previously completed in the London Marathon in 2005 and also the New York and Helsinki marathons.

He has also taken part in a number of half marathons and took part in the 2013 Great North Run, raising money for a number of charities in the process.

Iwan said: “I’ll also be taking part in the Anglesey Half Marathon on March 2. I’m training hard running around Llandysul and Cardiff since Christmas and my aim is to complete the marathon around three hours, a real challenge but will give it my all!”

Iwan decided to run for Concern after supporting the charity for a number of years.

He added: “They do fantastic work in helping those most in need. Their current work involves helping people suffering in Syria, South Sudan and the Philippines.

“The vast majority of their funding is spent on relief and development projects and it’s wonderful to see donations being used on emergency food supplies and clean water for communities in Africa for example.

“I am proud to be part of the Concern team and am very grateful for any donations received.”
