Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has joined constituents today in presenting a petition against the closure of Cardigan Hospital, to the Health Minister at National Assembly in Cardiff.

The petition, coordinated by Cardigan Town Council and the Cardigan Hospital League of Friends group, has received over 11,000 signatures, all from people living within a 15 mile radius of Cardigan. The petition calls on the Health Board to overturn the plans for Cardigan Community Hospital to only treat outpatients from March, and calls on them to quickly develop a new health facility in the Cardigan area.

Commenting, Mark Williams MP said:

‘As the number of local signatories indicates, there is a huge strength of feeling on this issue. I was glad to be there when the petition was handed over earlier today, and I sincerely hope the Health Board takes note. I commend the work of the Cardigan Hospital League of Friends and the Town Council for their hard work on this issue, and determination to protect services for the local community.’
