Elin Jones, AM for Ceredigion, has called on the Welsh Government to give as much assistance as possible to Ceredigion County Council to help repair storm damage.

An assessment has estimated that repairing the damage done during the storms in early January will cost £1.5 million.

Aberystwyth’s promenade was seriously damaged, Cardigan was affected by floods, and storms affected many coastal communities including Llangrannog, Aberaeron, Clarach and Borth.

Elin Jones said: “It’s no surprise that the estimate of how much damage was done to the Ceredigion coastline is as much as £1.5 million. It’s imperative that funding is made available to repair the coast securely for the future, and swiftly. "Ceredigion’s coast needs to be open for business as soon as possible. I understand from discussions with local authority officers that the coastal path – which is so crucial for the tourist trade – needs repairs in several places such as Llan-non.

“The clean-up efforts by volunteers have been heroic, but the structural damage will take longer to repair. I hope the Welsh Government will respond positively to the clear need for assistance for our coastal communities.”
