A lorry delivery driver allegedly spotted by a mobile police officer using a mobile telephone on the A487 trunk road near Cardigan has denied the offence.
When he appeared at Ceredigion Magistrates Court last week 34-year-old Wayne Stuart Smith said it was very difficult to drive a lorry and use a mobile ‘phone on roads in this area.
Smith, of Chippenham in Wiltshire, was charged with driving an Iveco lorry on the main road at Penparc while using a hand-held mobile telephone on October 17 last year.
Before the case was adjourned for trial on March 17 Smith, who was not legally represented, was advised by court clerk Diane Williams to obtain his mobile telephone records for that day.
If the defendant is found guilty he will be liable for a driving disqualification under the points totting up procedure.
