It looks as if funding will be available from the Welsh Assembly to repair the storm damage to Aberystwyth's promenade.
Highways chief Huw Morgan told this week's Ceredigion Cabinet meeting that there was a possibility of the council accessing funds.
"Discussions with officers in Cardiff say there are funds open to us from three sources," he said.
He added that the council would have to matchfund the cash from its own reserves.
"We are still trying to determine what the final cost will be as well as preparing for the high tide on February 2."
