Committed volunteers have given over 15,000 hours to the Cardigan Castle project.

For years volunteers from the local community have been freely giving their spare time to help ensure that the Cardigan Castle project will be a success.

Volunteer Coordinator, Gwenllian Evans, said “Cardigan Castle has a fantastic group of enthusiastic volunteers who help out in all sorts of different ways. Many of our volunteers have been involved with the Castle for years, and so have knowledge which is invaluable to the project.

“In 2013, the Castle Volunteer group won the WCVA’s Volunteer of the Year award because of their hard work and dedication.”

The project has secured £11 million of grant funding. By September 2015, the project needs to have recorded 23,000 volunteer hours, and is well on its way to reaching this figure with 15,000 hours logged. Volunteer hours have already contributed an equivalent of £183,000.

People volunteer in a variety of ways for the Castle, including gardening, administrative support, attending sub-committees, research via the archive group and joining the sewing group.

One of the main ways to volunteer at this stage is through the fund-raising group. The project has to raise £150,000 and volunteers are busy arranging fund-raising events which vary from Castle talks, pub quizzes and race nights to concerts and golf days.
