Ceredigion's council workforce have been praised for their response to last week's devastating storms.

Chief executive Bronwen Morgan told this week's special cabinet meeting that the entire length of the county had been affected from Cardigan to Aberystwyth and Borth.

"It is worth remembering what scale of resources we needed to attend to all these places. Luckily no-one was hurt but there was extreme damage and people had to leave their homes.

"We knew it was going to be a big event and the steps we have to take to recover are going to be challenging. The council had to rely on its emergency plan and it worked."

She added that the council staff had worked well with the emergency services.

A report is now being compiled on the impact the storms had on the county.

Council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn said: "There is a lot of work to be done."
