MID and West AM Simon Thomas has demanded answers over the closure of remaining beds at Cardigan Hosptial.

Mr Thomas has written to Hywel Dda Health Board for an explanation for the decision to close remaining beds at Cardigan Hosptial.

The Mid and West AM said: “I’m demanding answers over the decision to close the remaining beds at Cardigan Hospital.

“Working with Shadow Health Minister and Ceredigion AM Elin Jones we tabled amendments to the NHS Finance Bill for three year planning linked to clinical planning to try and avoid this type of situation.

“I would want to build on our work as part of the Welsh Government in our development of a Welsh Rural Health Plan. One thing we don’t want to go down the road of privatised English NHS introduced by the Conservative-Liberal coalition.

“Our vision of the Welsh NHS is to ensure services available for the residents of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. I will also be seeking asurances over the proposals for a new hosptial with sufficient beds.”
