A young family from Talgarreg returned triumphant from the Royal Welsh Winter Fair having won with their Pekin Bantams. The novice competitors have only been showing their bantams, Polly and Sali, lightly, but have already a fistful of red rosettes!

Sisters, Cerys Jones (10), Alaw (7) are supported by their 10 month old sister Martha and were over the moon to find that Polly, the pretty brown bantam had won the Patridge Pekin class and Sali, the lavender bantam had been awarded third prize in the Pet Chicken section.

' We really didn't expect to win and the girls were very excited' commented Allana who was given the bantams by a next door neighbour. She added: ' We have four bantams including our cockerel, Tomos Caradog. It's a lot of work getting them ready for the show and we use a lot of coconout oil and creams, but it's all worth it. I sometimes think it's more work getting these bantams ready for a show than it is a pony!'

Allana, her husband Tudur and the keen young bantam exhibitors are hoping to show the birds at various agricultural shows next year and hope to ruffle a few feathers by winning a few more classes.
