Elin Jones seeks urgent assurances on Cardigan Hospital

LOCAL Ceredigion AM Elin Jones has contacted the Hywel Dda Health Board chairman, Chris Martin, and chief executive, Trevor Purt, to seek assurances over the immediate future of services at Cardigan Hospital. Last week, beds were closed at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth, with the Health Board citing a shortage of staff. Plaid’s Elin Jones has sought to clarify whether these staffing problems also pose a danger to Cardigan Hospital, where the number of beds has been reduced in recent times.
Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru AM for Ceredigion, said,
“People throughout the Hywel Dda Health Board area will naturally be concerned at reports of staff shortages. Whatever the reason for them, yesterday I contacted the chairman and chief executive of the Board, asking them to give reassurance that there will be no further reduction in services at Cardigan Hospital.
“We need to have confidence that Hywel Dda Health Board is being straight with the people of the Cardigan area. The Welsh Government has recently provided £10 million in additional funding to employ nurses where there are shortages. The Hywel Dda Board’s recruitment procedures need reviewing urgently.”
